2025 Updates

It’s 2025 already!

It’s been almost 2 years since my last post. In my last post I had installed a beam to try and hit the VE5RI repeater without luck. It is now April 2025 and for some reason I am able to get into the repeater, I’ve had a QSO with a club member and checked into a net. Things are looking up!

Portable Operation

Last summer I was out camping and braved the mosquitos one night to play radio It was late so I did not get any QSOs in the log however I was successful is connecting to a winlink station and checking my email.

Advanced Certification

In October of 2023 I started self-studying for the Advanced Certification while others were taking our class run course for basic and for advanced in Vermilion, AB. In May of 2024 I wrote for, passed the exam and received my advanced certification.

Antenna Designs & Builds

Over the last year on and off I have been designing a coil loaded vertical. I’ve been making it a modular design so that it can be used for a variety of configurations.

Once completed I will design and build my own lightweight portable EFHW antenna and these two units will be the main antennas I take out portable with my FT-891. I have a couple of details to iron out with my coil loaded vertical and then just need to order some Delrin so I can get to work machining my design.

Shack Updates

I ordered a few items including an EFHW from MyAntennas.com and measured out my coax run so I can order my coax and connectors. I am going to try Messi & Paoloni products this time around.

Hopefully 2025 is filled with radio adventures, some HF operations and QSOs in the log book.
